School’s out, the sun is shining… who’s ready to do some coding at a conference?!! Woo-hoo!!!

The MakeCode team is heading out to the Windy City (Chicago) at the end of June, and we couldn’t be more excited 😊

We’ve got some nice sessions lined up and would love to see you there!

Saturday, June 23, McCormick Place West Room 183C

1:30pm - 2:20pm : MakeCode for the Micro:bit

Hal Speed from the Micro:bit Foundation and Douglas & Mary Kiang authors of the Intro to CS Micro:bit curriculum will be giving an overview of the micro:bit, why it’s been so successful at engaging students in CS, showcasing some sample student projects, and going through a hands-on workshop.

2:25pm - 3:15pm : MakeCode for Minecraft

Douglas & Mary Kiang, both Minecraft Mentors and authors of the Intro to CS Minecraft curriculum, will be talking about why Minecraft is such a powerful and engaging teaching and learning platform, and leading you through some hands-on coding challenges to make pigs bounce and cows fly through code!

3:20pm - 4:10pm : MakeCode Arcade Beta feedback session

Sneak a peek of Microsoft MakeCode Arcade Beta – a brand new retro 1980’s game development platform. We’ll get hands-on developing simple 2D sprite-based games in both blocks and JavaScript. Then we’ll spend time discussing the experience, capabilities, and API’s of the platform. Come join the discussion and provide your input and expertise to help us design this new MakeCode solution!

Microsoft Hands-on Learning Room

McCormick Place West 185A

We’ll be running ongoing one-hour hands-on workshops in the Microsoft HOL room throughout the conference. You’ll get to code games, design colored light displays, and make robots dance. Walk away with curriculum and projects you can implement in your classroom. Come drop in for a session or two – we promise it will be fun! No prior experience required.
